Lucy Is Taking Inspiration from ‘The Real Housewives of New York’ on ‘Mr. Church’

October 10, 2016

Mr. Church tells the beautifully human story of a unique friendship that develops when a talented cook, named Henry Joseph Church (Eddie Murphy), comes into the lives of a little girl and her dying mother. Set in Los Angeles in 1965, Mr. Church finds himself in the position of father figure to Charlotte “Charlie” Brody (Britt Robertson) and, as the six-month arrangements ends up enduring for 15 years, the unlikely pair end up learning many life lessons from each other. Outside of the bonds she has with her mother and with Mr. Church, the only other constant in Charlie’s life is her best friend Poppy (Lucy Fry), whose own personal ambitions set the two down very different life paths.

At the recent Los Angeles press day for the film, I got the opportunity to sit down with Lucy Fry for an exclusive video interview. She talked about the film’s true story, wanting to work with director Bruce Beresford (Driving Miss Daisy), her character’s obsession with appearance, taking inspiration from The Real Housewives of New York City, bonding with Britt Robertson, and sharing screen time with Eddie Murphy. She also talked about being drawn to outsider characters, the appeal of Wolf Creek, and her experience playing the wife of Lee Harvey Oswald in 11.22.63. Watch what she had to say above.

Mr. Church also stars Natascha McElhone, Lucy Fry, Xavier Samuel, and Mckenna Grace. Here’s the synopsis:

Mr. Church tells the story of a unique friendship that develops when a little girl and her dying mother retain the services of a talented cook – Henry Joseph Church. What begins as a six month arrangement instead spans into fifteen years and creates a family bond that lasts forever.

How ‘Wolf Creek’ Will Transition To Pop – TCA

August 07, 2016

Pop president Brad Schwartz introduced a panel for the new Pop TV series Wolf Creek (based on the horror movie franchise) as the story of “a strong empathetic woman overcoming a psychopathic monster.

“Anyone get that?’ the executive added when the line failed to draw much reaction.

On a more serious note, Schwartz described the new series as a perfect fit with Pop’s intent to celebrate “fandom” by expanding the Pop brand to include the cult favorite. “It’s a way for us to get into drama” with a popular saga, Schwartz said.

In the six-episode series— with a previously announced Oct. 14 premiere — John Jarratt reprises his movie role as serial killer Mick Taylor. But unlike the movie, here Mick meets his match in Eve Thorogood (Lucy Fry), an American college student visiting the Australian outback with her family. When Mick preys on the family, Lucy survives and becomes his relentless pursuer.

Produced in Australia, the first-season episodes premiered earlier in the year in Australia. Series EP Greg McLean (also writer, director and producer of the movies) says the series is already a “massive hit” down under. He said that the movies had “played fairly well” there and audiences responded to having a female character leading a revenge drama: “It’s entertaining as hell.”

Wolf Creek EP has Ideas for Season 2 of Serial Killer Drama

August 07, 2016

Australian actor John Jarratt’s Outback-based serial killer Mick Taylor has twice terrified cinema audiences — first in 2005’s Wolf Creek and then its 2013 sequel Wolf Creek 2. Now, Wolf Creek is migrating to the small screen in the form of a six-episode limited series, which premieres Oct. 14 on Pop. Executive producer Greg McLean, who also directed the two films, is keen to reassure horror fans that Taylor has lost none of his psychotic ways in the course of the transition.

“I think he may be getting more deranged, actually,” says the filmmaker, who also directed the recent horror film The Darkness. “He gets crazier as he goes on. He’s certainly a little more liberal in his killings in the series. Our No. 1 priority was to not television-ize what the movies were. We absolutely wanted it to be as cinematic, and impactful, as the movies, and not really pull back on any of the content.”

Lucy Fry attends 23rd Annual Hamptons International Film Festival

Lucy Fry attends ‘The Preppie Connection’ premiere on the 23rd Annual Hamptons International Film Festival. (October 10, 2015) You can see the images below.

What was the casting process like?

I did the casting with S2 Casting. Thomas Mann actually sought out the film and sought me out, and really wanted to be a part of it, which was so exciting. He was so committed to the project, and that means so much to me as a director to have committed cast members. Lucy Fry was the exact same. She sought the project out and we actually met over Skype at first and we just hit it off. The casting was just something that came together beautifully because I met such great people and people I wanted to make the film with. – Joseph Castelo

The first exclusive clip of The Preppie Connection also premiered at Vanity Fair.

Lucy Fry In Shortlist to Star in ‘Robin Hood: Origins’

October 01, 2015

Robin Hood Origins LFS

According to Deadline, Lucy Fry is one of the four actress who are in talks to star in ‘Robin Hood: Origins’. You can read the full press release below.

Deadline has learned that a quartet of up-and-coming actresses from around the world are in the mix for Lionsgate’s Robin Hood: OriginsThe Knick‘s Irish-born Eve Hewson is in the running along with Dutch actress Gaite Jansen(Supernova), Australian thesp Lucy Fry (Vampire Academy) and British actressGugu Mbatha-Raw (Belle). The global approach to casting the female lead opposite Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) underscores the more authentic approach Lionsgate and director Otto Bathurst would like to take with their version of the iconic Sherwood Forest inhabitant.
No offers have been made yet, but the project is a priority for Lionsgate, which declined to comment when contacted by Deadline. Peaky Blinders‘ Bathurst is directing the gritty, revisionist take on the legend. Joby Harold, the scribe who wrote Knights Of The Roundtable: King Arthur with Guy Ritchie directing Charlie Hunnam, has conjured up the origins story that has been likened to The Dark Knight. Here, Robin Hood returns from fighting in The Crusades and finds that Sherwood Forest is rife with corruption and evil. He forms a band of outlaws and they take matters into their own hands. The picture is being produced by Appian Way’s Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson, and Safe House’s Harold and Tory Tunnell and Basil Iwanyk.

There are other Robin Hood projects also set up around town. Disney has the Brandon Barker spec Nottingham & Hood, which is said to be in the vein of Pirates Of The Caribbean and Enchanted. The Picture Company’s Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona are producing. Sony last fall bought a Robin Hood pitch for $1 million from Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott with Jerry Bruckheimer producing and Aperture’s Adam Goldworm executive producing. That project, Hood, has been described as Fast And Furious meets Mission: Impossible. Warner Bros has also quietly put one of its own Robin Hood projects into development, scripted by Gangster Squad and Aquaman scribe Will Beall and produced by The Lego Movie‘s Dan Lin and John Zaozirny.

With the quartet of projects vying to get to the start post, Lionsgate is doing everything it can to get out of the gates first. It is aiming to start production in the first quarter of 2016. The last time there were rival Robin Hood projects was in 1991, when the Kevin Costner-starrer Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves went against the Patrick Bergin-Uma Thurman Robin Hood and wiped the floor with it despite being released a month later.

A potential scheduling wrinkle: Fox has an option on Egerton to reprise his star-making turn as a secret agent in the sequel to Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Secret Service it wants to start shooting next spring — that still needs to be ironed out.

But this project looks like it’s gathering momentum.
