Lucy Fry: New ‘Vampire Academy’ Stills!

December 14, 2013

JUSTJAREDJR — Lucy Fry gets a kiss from Dominic Sherwood in this newly released still from Vampire Academy.

“Most definitely having green eye contacts,” Lucy, 21, shared about the most difficult thing she tackled as Lissa. “I have really struggled to get used to having a green world. You put them in and everything is a little bit moldy. It’s a bit hard to connect to people that I am acting with because there is this kind of green sheen between us. It takes a lot of focus to kind of push through that and see everything in focus.”

Based on the books by Richelle Mead, the flick follows Rose Hathaway (Deutch) and Lissa Dragomir (Lucy Fry), two 17-year-old girls who have been on the run when they are captured and returned to St. Vladamirs Academy, the very place where they believe their lives may be in most jeopardy.

How to Become a Master at Slating

December 12, 2013

Casting Director Marci Liroff shares some of her tips for self-taping in Backstage.

Australian actor Lucy Fry, whom I cast in the upcoming film “Vampire Academy,” is probably one of the best “slaters” I’ve ever seen. She seems self-assured, confident, and truly connects with the camera. She shared her process with me. “It’s the only chance you ever get to look directly at the lens, so I try to channel the energy of the character with warmth and confidence so the people watching it can see the way the character sits in me through the eyes. I try to let myself be seen without pushing a fake smile or worrying about what anyone thinks. I am nervous, so I take a breath before I speak and wait a microsecond to feel ready to speak so I am not rushing into it. I guess I treat it like a scene. I try to fill it with the same energy that I would any action as the character because focusing on energy, the breath, and the character makes it feel easier.”

Lucy Fry Interview On the Set of ‘Vampire Academy’

November 01, 2013

Fangirlish and Page To Premiere had the lovely chance to interview Lucy Fry on the set of ‘Vampire Academy’. You can read the full transcript of the interview below.

Q: For the few people in the world who haven’t heard of Vampire Academy, could you introduce your character?

Lucy: Lissa is a vampire princess. She is one of the Moroi, which is a race of vampires, a living vampire. Her family is one of the 12 royal families. She became a princess when her entire family was killed in a car accident, so she is the last of this particular line of royals. She is a beautiful, loving, sensitive, girl. When her family passes away a lot of events happen which I can’t talk about. They kind of make her more different to the rest of the Moroi vampires.

Q: Does she feel like a bit of an outsider then, because she is different?

Lucy: Ya. She definitely finds it very hard to relate to everyone. She has gone through so much she finds that part of her is missing and it’s really difficult for her to connect to normality I guess.

Q: What attracted you to Lissa? What did you like about her so much that you thought you had to play her?

Lucy: When I read the script the first time, my initial reaction was that I loved it because of the friendship between Lissa and Rose and how that kind of got them through everything. The way that Lissa kind of relies on Rose to help her through all the things that she’s going through right now. I really think that is an important story to be told.

Q: How tough was the audition process? What did you have to go through to get there?

Lucy: It was a bit odd. I was backpacking through Europe and I had been there for a day and had my audition for Lissa. I went in and I did it with an American accent the first time. I got really great feedback in the room, I was really excited, and then I didn’t hear anything for two weeks. I was like oh no. Then I called my manager and he said, “Ya they are moving on now, they are just accepting self-tapes from all around the world.” So I decided to send in a self-tape and try it with an English accent. Then I sent in the self-tape and the next day I was sitting in a café and got a call that you have a test deal tomorrow. At the time I didn’t even know what a test deal was. The next day I went in and there were two other girls who look basically the same as me and I was like wow this is creepy. We went in and spent the whole day doing scenes and the day after that we went to a lunch with all the producers, the directors, and the writer and the casting director. Zoey and I were told we got the part. It was such a shock. I was not expecting that to happen.

Q: Have you gotten used to it yet?

Lucy: No. Maybe I will get used to it when we finish filming. Maybe then I will.

Q: What’s it like off set? The atmosphere with everyone?

Lucy: Oh its really fun.

Q: Zoey especially. You have such a strong bond with her.

Lucy: Ya. Zoey and I get on amazingly well. We are so supportive of each other. Going through the really long hours and the night shoots- 3pm to 5am everyday, it bonds you in a way that you can’t bond in normal life. It’s very – you just have to support each other so much. It’s really great to have her acting with me. I really, really love her.
